Job Description

We are looking for someone to lead the team in the Orangery Cafe at Hampton Court Castle.

The job will involve working in a busy cafe/restaurant environment and will also require a willingness to work in other areas of the business if needed. You will report to the Directors of the company. 

Initially this will be a seasonal role, with full-time employment throughout April - October 2020 and reduced hours over the winter period. You will need to be very flexible in your approach to work outside of standard business hours, including weekends and bank holidays, as this is when we are busiest.

A competitive rate of pay will be offered for the right person.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Promoting a high standard of customer service and dealing with customer service issues.
  • Assisting in the day-to-day duties in the kitchen and cafe alongside the team.
  • Stock ordering and rotation, ensuring that correct stock levels are maintained with minimal waste.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels, responding effectively to fluctuating demand.
  • Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness is maintained throughout the cafe including function rooms, stock rooms, staff rooms and Ice Cream Parlour.
  • Effective supervision and leadership of all cafe staff.
  • Ensuring food hygiene (including allergies and intolerances) and health and safety are adhered to at all times by all cafe staff. 
  • Cash handling and using EPOS system for sales, ordering, stock control and reporting. 
  • Adhere to and maintain standard operating procedures in all areas. 
  • Reporting regularly to the directors with financial and operational information.

Skills and Qualifications

We are looking for a motivated, positive individual who will inspire their team and deliver an exceptional customer experience, whilst remaining focused on important management and financial tasks. The ideal candidate will have had experience of leading a team within the catering or hospitality industry and will also have: 

  • A passion for food and hospitality.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and highly motivated.
  • Be commercially astute, sales focused and always looking for ways to maximise opportunities.
  • Target driven, towards delivering customer satisfaction and financial targets.
  • Able to adapt to, manage and deliver change through the cafe team effectively.
  • Interested in using garden produce in the cafe.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Able to work well in a team and independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining good relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong influencing skills.
  • High standards of personal hygiene and presentation.
  • Food Hygiene Level 3 (this can be obtained after joining).
  • Personal alcohol license (this can be obtained after joining).
  • Strong IT skills with confidence in learning new systems.

Requirements

All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.
Full driving license and own transport.
