Job Description

Join our gardening team at Hampton Court Castle! In this role, you’ll be integral to maintaining our stunning formal gardens, river walks, manicured lawns, and several private gardens across our vibrant estate.

This is a full-time position, primarily Monday to Friday. However, flexibility to work outside of standard hours, including weekends and bank holidays, is required.

Working at Hampton Court Castle

Hampton Court Castle is a 15th-century gem nestled between Leominster and Hereford, and is renowned for hosting exquisite weddings and private functions. 

At the heart of the estate are The Gardens, open to the public from March to October. Visitors enjoy the organically managed kitchen gardens, vibrant herbaceous borders, yew tree maze and impressive water features. The Orangery Cafe serves tea and lights lunches with stunning views of the countryside.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake hard and soft landscaping and routine garden maintenance tasks like mulching, pruning, clearing leaves, weeding, hedge trimming, and lawn mowing.
  • Plant and care for trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants.
  • Keep all garden areas, including patios, pavilions, and greenhouses, neat and orderly.
  • Engage with visitors, addressing their queries about the gardens.
  • Support garden events, including setup and coordination.
  • Comply with all operational procedures and health & safety requirements.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head Gardener.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications (NVQ Level 3, RHS Level 3, degree level, or equivalent) preferred.
  • PA1 and PA6 chemical spraying, CS30/CS31 certificates beneficial.
  • Proficiency in using garden maintenance equipment and machinery.
